The casket attendants were C. P. Strohm, Wm. Phillips, J. F. Gay, George Banger, F. C. Gravenhorst and Jerry Driscol. Members of Trowel Lodge No. 216, A. F. & A M, and Lotos Lodge No. 705 attended in a body and Lyra Chapter No. 129, O. E. S., and Thistle Rebekah Lodge were also represented. Mr. Young died in his home on Commercial street, last Sunday morning at three o'clock, after having been practically an invalid for more than four years. In 1925 he suffered a stroke of paralysis and while he was able to walk down town occasionally he never fully recovered and during the past year has failed gradually. The latter part of September his condition became worse and death was a welcome relief. Clarence V. Young was born in Medina County, Ohio, September 26th, 1845, and was the son of A. L. F. and Lavinnia Young. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1861, making the trip in a covered wagon. The family located in Bruce township, Benton County, on the farm known as the J. H. Anderson place, where they lived for one year. the father then bought a farm about three miles southwest of LaPorte City and that was the family home for many years. On March 26, 1865, the deceased was married to Miss Nannie Woodley and they made their home with the latter's parents until the spring of 1891 when they purchased an eighty acre farm across the road from the Woodley Place and established their own home. Mr and Mrs. Young had no children and for many years James F. Seamans lived with them and was treated like a son. In June, 1908, they took a little girl, six years old, from an orphans home, intending to adopt her but the sudden death of Mrs Young on June 25th of that year made it necessary for Mr. Young to send her back to the home. In the summer of 1909 Mr. Young purchased and remodeled a residence on Commercial Street and in September he moved into the house, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Malinda Woodley, coming to maintain his home. Mrs. Woodley died two weeks later and since then he has remained in the place with a housekeeper. Politically Mr. Young was a republican. He served as constable four years, as road supervisor nine years and as township trustee. In his early years he maintained a membership in the fire company of LaPorte City. As long as his health permitted he was an active member of Trowel Lodge, Lotos Lodge, and Lyra Chapter, O. E. S. he was a 32nd degree Mason and also a Shriner.
