ERICKSON DIES IN CITY Clarence William Erickson, 76, of Stratford, died at the Hamilton County Hospital at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Stratford at 2 o'clock today with Rev. E.A. Cochell officiating and burial in Swede Bend Cemetery. McCauley-Chapman Funeral Home was in charge of services. Clarence William Erickson, son of Eric A. and Margaret Erickson was born Aug. 15, 1872, at Stratford. He was educated and grew to young manhood in Stratford and lived there all his life except for 14 years spent in Michigan. He was engaged in the harness making business for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Ed. He is survived by three brothers and four sisters: Eric of Boone, Oscar of Marshall, Minn., and James of Boone, and Mrs. Nick Peterson of Des Moines, Mrs. Louise Johnson, Mrs. John C. Ritchie and Mrs. Abbie Richard, all of Stratford. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Stratford Courier June 9, 1949 Obituary Clarence William Ericson Clarence William Ericson, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Ericson, pioneers of Hamilton county, was born Aug. 15, 1872, on a farm in Hamilton county, south of Stratford, and passed away May 28, 1949, in the county hospital at Webster City at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 13 days. He grew to manhood on the above farm and then moved to Boone and learned the harness making trade, which he followed for many years in various localities in Iowa and in some western states, until the tractors replaced the horses on the farm, making his occupation obsolete. In order to keep abreast of the times he moved to Flint, Mich., and entered into the automobile industry, where harness makers were in big demand for the making of automobile cushions. He followed this work until he retired in 1940, when he returned to this vicinity of Iowa. During the last two years of his illness he made his home with his sister and brother, Mrs. Louise Johnson and James Ericson, the last year in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Ericson at Boone, where he had been tenderly cared for. His parents and two brothers, Ed. and Frank, preceded him in death. He is survived by three brothers, James and Eric of Boone, and Oscar of Marshall, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. V.P. Peterson of Des Moines, Mrs. Louise Johnson, Mrs. Abbie Rickhard, and Mrs. J.C. Ritchie, of Stratford, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. He often expressed a longing to be at rest after a month of suffering. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Calvary Methodist Church at Stratford, with the Rev. E.A. Cochell officiating at the services. Two songs were sung by Mrs. E.J. Johnson and Mrs. A. Westerhoff, with Mrs. Ronald Bell as accompanist. They were: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When They Ring Them Golden Bells." Following the services the remains were interred in the Hardin Township Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Bob Anderson, John Eckstein, Clarence Sackrison, Glenn Johnson, Harold Benson and Harold Fohlin.
