For the second time in two months a Brewster young man has met a tragic death by drowning. Last Sunday Claude Trivett was drowned in Swan Lake, nine miles north of Brewster. A party of young men went to Swan Lake on a picnic. The lake is a small body of water at the foot of a spring and is clear and not over 19 feet at the deepest part. Several of the young man had been in the water for over two hours, when young Trivett and a companion by the name of Ward began scuffling in the water. They both became exhausted and called for help. Young Starzman immediately sprang in and helped Ward out but in the meantime young Trivett had went down. Many of the boys dove time after time without being able to reach him. Finally when the body had been in the water over forty-five minutes, Trivett's young brother Dave, managed to throw a drag over the body and brought it to the shore. In the meantime Dr. Dewey had been sent for and shortly arrived, but as the boy was completely exhausted when he went down it was impossible to bring him too. Claude Trivett was born in Ash County, NC and was 18 years old. He came here with his parents in 1906 and has lived here since. Interment was made at the Mikel Cemetery and the sermon preached by Rev. C. M. Mikel. The remains were followed to their last earthly resting place by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives, who join the HERALD in extended sympathy to the bereaved ones.
