Story Claudius McClave Story, son of John C. and Florence Neill Story, was born at Pawnee City May 27, 1877, and died at Lincoln April 13, 1946. In 1885, his grandfather having died, the grandmother brought Claude to Pawnee City, where they made their home with his uncle and aunt, Albert and Alice Story. In early life Claude united with the United Presbyterian church. He graduated from the Pawnee City high school with the class of 1894 and from the University of Nebraska in 1899. Following his graduation he took a post graduate course there. He then went to Cornell university for a year's work. In 1903 and 1904 he was principal of the Pawnee City high school and also coach of the football team. He then entered the law school at Harvard university. After spending some time there he was stricken with a mental illness from which he never recovered. In his early manhood which had held so much promise he was cut off from all the things he had worked so hard to attain. He was an accomplished musician, giving much time to his music. At one time he was leader of the Pawnee City band. The 142nd Psalm, to the tune of Hamburg, was a great favorite with him and he seldom left his instrument without playing it as his closing number. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Maude Story, conducted by Rev. H.A. Thompson, and interment was in the Pawnee City cemetery. "Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for Thou shalt deal bountifully with me." (Psa. 142:7)
