He went to Denver some two months ago and entered the hospital in the hope of gaining relief from his malady. On August 16, 1881, he came to Nebraska, settling in the vicinity of Edgar where he resided until his death. He was married in 1884 to Nellie Hansen. To this union were born nine children, three boys and six girls, all of whom are living. He was one of the charter members of the Lutheran church in Edgar. He died in a hospital in Denver September 17, and was buried September 20 in the Edgar cemetery. A short service was held at the home west of town and was followed by a more complete service at the Lutheran church in Edgar, both conducted by the pastor, Rev Svard. The funeral services were attended by a large number of relatives and friends among whom the deceased was held in high esteem. Mr Slatt was one of the pioneers of this section was one of the most important factors in making the county what it is today. With the other farmers of his time he worked hard through a number of lean years taking care of what he had and aiding materially in the development of the county as he improved and developed his own property. At the time of his death he was the holder of comparatively large real estate interests, proofs of industry and frugality.
