Mr. Slatt died in Denver in 1910. ===================================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, November 5, 1931; pg. 3 Mrs Nellie Slatt Buried in Edgar Mrs Nellie Slatt was born in Holland Sweden, March 13, 1862 (sic) and passed away at Long Beach, California, Tuesday, Oct 20, 1931 at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 7 days. Mrs Slatt was baptized in the mother church of Sweden and arrived in America at the age of only eight years. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Galesburg, Illinois, from which place she arrived at Edgar, Nebraska, in 1882. The following year, 1883, she became a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Edgar, now Ong. She was married to Claus Paul Slatt in 1884 at Edgar. To this union nine children were born, three sons and six daughters, Carl, Emil, Nettie, Edna, Inez, Harry, Alice, Dorothy and Viola. Her husband died at Denver, Colo., Sept 17, 1910. Her daughter, Nettie died at Denver only a little over two months ago, Aug 16, 1931. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church at Ong and at which services the departed, mother, sister and friend was present. Mrs Slatt was an active, faithful, devoted member of the church of her youth at the respective places where she resided. Fifteen years ago she moved from Edgar to California and lived at Long Beach for ten years where she was a consecrated member of the Immanuel Lutheran church, Rev Paul Randolph being pastor at the time of her death and where services were held Thursday, October 22, 1931. Left to mourn her sudden departure are her eight children, Carl E Slatt of Denver, Colo.; Emil F Slatt, Harry B Slatt and Mrs Viola M Dooley of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs Edna M Ordway of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs Inez Stapleton of Hickman, Nebraska; Mrs Alice M Hime and Mrs Dorothy F McDaniel of San Pedro; and eight brothers and sister, Olaf, Frank and Henry Hanson of Long Beach; Mrs Ida Huey of Long Beach; Mrs Emma Wonder of Denver, Mrs Bira Nelson of Ong, Mr Lewis P Hanson of Shickley and Mrs Charles Hanson of Edgar, together with a host of relatives and many near and dear friends. Mrs Slatt was a loving, endearing, devoted mother. She always exercised great care and concern for her children and was a real friend to all who knew her. We believe that she had a firm faith founded and grounded upon the Everlasting Rock, Jesus Christ. We trust and pray that we shall meet this beloved mother, sister and friend again on those glorious eternal shores where sorrow and sadness are no more. Funeral services were held at the Gethsemane Lutheran church of Ong, Sunday, Oct 25 at 2:30. The pastor, Rev Henning L Hassel read from Prov 31:10-31 and John 14:1-3 at the altar and spoke on the text from Heb 11:16 using as his theme, "The Better Country". A quartet composed of Mrs Emil Harnett, Miss Francis Larson, Olaf Larson and Oscar Rudd brought beautiful and comforting messages in the songs that were rendered. The many glorious flowers and the great throng of friends present spoke silently and eloquently of the noble life departed to live in that greater, more glorious and better country. We quote two paragraphs from a Long Beach paper about the sudden departure of our beloved friend; "Injuries received Saturday night when she slipped on a rug lying on a polished hardwood floor led to the death last night of Mrs Nellie Slatt, aged 70 years, mother of Harry B Slatt. She died at a local hospital three days after sustaining a fracture of the hip in the mishap at the home of her son. "Mrs Slatt, recently was pronounced in 'splendid health' by a physician. Two weeks ago she returned from a two months trip to Nebraska where she had visited her family."
