Description	:	Clay E. Hedrick, Sr., 75, 1200 East Broadway, Apt 309, retired state auditor, died this morning at Axtell Christian Hospital. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born Feb. 14, 1901, at Clements, the son of Clarence and Bertha Shaft Hedrick. He married Florence L. Greenway. They moved to Newton from Wichita in 1930. He was born Feb. 14, 1901, at Clements, the son of Clarence and Bertha Shaft Hedrick. He married Florence L. Greenway. They moved to Newton from Wichita in 1930. He attended Fairmount College and Wichita State University. He served as Harvey County Clerk for three terms from 1955 to 1960. He was elected state auditor in 1960 and remained in that office until his retirement in 1975, when the office was abolished. He was an unsuccessful GOP candidate for state treasurer in 1974 losing to Joan Finney, a Democrat. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church, Lions Club, Elks Lodge, and Newton Masonic Lodge. Survivors in addition to the widow include two sons, Clay E. Jr., Newton, and John E., Grand Rapids, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Mercer, Houston, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. John McCuish, Topeka; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One brother, Carl B. preceeded him in death.
