Description	:	From Benson County Farmers Press. The funeral for Clifford Pownell, 71, of Devils Lake, formerly of York will be held Wed. at Leeds Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the York Cemetery. He died Nov. 21, 1994 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Rev. Margaret Olson will officiate. Mayme Silliman will be organist & Nancy Silliman soloist. Pallbearers will be Allan, Scott, Kelly & Todd Follman, Norval Johnson & Nels Tostenson Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sidney Britsch American Legion Post 268 of York. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds is in charge of arrangements. Clifford Pownell was born March 15, 1923 near York to Charles & Nellie Carrington Pownell. He was raised & attended school there. He was a lifelong farmer in the York area. He served in the US Navy from 1941 to 1943. He married Thelma Urness June 18, 1956 at Leeds. They retired from farming in 1982 & moved to Devils Lake in June of 1994. He was a member of the York Lutheran Church & Later the Leeds Lutheran Church; the Sidney Britsch American Legion Post 268 of York & the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post 757 of Harlow. Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Cynthia Todd of Hendrum, Minn. & Cheryl Rice of Fargo; a granddaughter; a brother, Howard Pownell of Rugby; & 4 sisters, Alice Vigna of Antioch, Calif., Clara Tostenson & Pearl Medhus of Leeds & Doris Krueziger of Roberts, Wisc.
