Description	:	Pearl Annabelle Medhus, 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Essentia Health in Fargo. While she considered Leeds, ND her home, Pearl resided in Fargo, ND for the past four-and-a-half years. Funeral services will be held at Leeds Lutheran Church on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Richard Budd officiating. Reading the Scriptures will be grandson, Scott Noyes with the Eulogy given by her grandson, Jared Medhus. Burial will be in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery, at Leeds. Pearl was born November 9, 1920 to Charles and Nellie (Carrington) Pownell. Her childhood was spent on a farm near York, ND. She married Henry Medhus on March 5, 1940. They lived on a farm northeast of Leeds, ND until 1979, when they moved into the town of Leeds. Farming was their lifelong profession. The couple had two children, Carolyn and Robert. A zest for life with an indomitable spirit, Pearl had a sharp mind, a good sense of humor, a clever wit, a strong work ethic, and a tender heart. She genuinely enjoyed people of all ages, especially the younger generation. Pearl was active in her community, volunteering in various capacities at her church, Leeds Lutheran; the American Legion Auxiliary; the Leeds "55" Club and Meals on Wheels. Her employment history included Mann's Department Store in Devils Lake; Home Café and Red Owl, both in Leeds; the Heart of America Hospital at Rugby and the Benson County Farmers Press. She loved reading, especially current events, subscribing to 4 papers and reading magazines ‘cover to cover.' Pearl also was an avid card player and a UND Fighting Sioux fan. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Pearl is survived by her son, Robert (Linda), Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Dr. William (Kari) Noyes, Grand Forks, ND; Dr. Scott (Karla) Noyes, Fargo, ND; Dr. Stacy (Leo) Noyes-Ballard, Robbinsdale, MN; Nathan (Kerri) Medhus, Fargo, ND; Cara (Colin) Roemer, Apple Valley, MN; Jared (fiancé Laura McClaflin) Medhus, Fargo, ND; three step-grandchildren, Jane (Doug) Rogness, Moorhead, MN; Anne (fiancé Nels Hunstad) Olson, Fargo, ND; Grace Olson, Fargo, ND; ten great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Thelma (Clifford) Pownell, Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews. Pearl requested that her obituary also mention her friend, Craig Straabe of Mission TX, to whom she referred to as "one of my kids" She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (1982); her daughter, Carolyn (Richard) Noyes (2005); her parents; three brothers, Howard; Russell; Clifford; and seven sisters, Grace; Ruth; Mabel; Hazel; Alice; Clara; and Doris. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds, ND. Pearl preferred memorials be directed to the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery.
