"Doc" Scribner, 85, a retired Geraldine tavern owner, died of Alzheimer's disease Monday, June 29, 1992 in a Great Falls nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church in Geraldine. Chapel of Chimes is in charge of arrangements. Born September 18, 1906, at Roy, Mo., he attended country school at Roy, Mo. He came to Montana when he was 16 and worked for Big Sag Land and Livestock Co. at Geraldine for 18 years. He married Katherine Nulf March 19, 1929 in Great Falls. Scribner went into the restaurant and bar business. He owned and operated Cliff's Bar in Geraldine for 35 years, selling the business in 1975 to enjoy a retirement of gardening and fishing. He belonged to the Montana Tavern Association. Survivors include his wife of Geraldine; daughters, Maxine Peterson, Ulm; Marian Buck, Geraldine, and Dotty Altenhofen, Lewistown; a son Clifford "Bud" Scribner, Jr., Great Falls; a brother Joe Scribner, Spokane; a stepbrother , Woody Ellsion, Hermiston, Oregon; 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. A daughter, Shirley Smith, five brothers, three sisters, and three grandsons preceded him in death. SCRIBNER 50 TH ANNIVERSARY March 19, 1979 Cliff and Kate Scribner were honored on their 50th anniversary with a reception in United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Clifford Adrian Scribner and Katherine Luvine Nulf were united in Marriage March 19, 1929, at the home of Fred and Ann Dorn in Great Falls. They have five children: Mrs. Ralph (Maxine) Peterson, Ulm; Mrs. Matt (Cubby) Buck, Geraldine; Clifford (Bud) Scribner, Jr. and Mrs Shirley Smith, both of Great Falls, Mrs. Tom (Dotty) Altenhofen, Lewistown. The Scribners have 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. All the couples' children and their families were able to attend the celebration. Kari Altenhofen, Lewistown was in charge of the guest book. Leann and Diane Buck, Lewis- town, served the punch. Coffee and tea were served by Judy Jenkins, Wilsall, and Clara Patterson, Stanford. The cake was cut by Glenda Thoreson, Geraldine and Sue Patterson, Bozeman. All the young women are Cliff and Kate's granddaughters. At 4 p.m., Cliff and Kate wre led into the church for a "wedding" ceremony. Kate was escorted to the altar by her brother, LeRoy Nulf, Fort Benton, to the tune of "The Old Gray Mare", played by Marian Scribner on the piano. The couple's attendants were their four daughter, their son,Cliff's two brothers and a cousin. A grandson, Patrick Buck, lit the candles for the service. Their great granddaughters, Jennifer and Jodi Thoreson, Brandy Buck and Adriann Patterson were the flower girl; Jeramy Patterson Aaron Jenkins, their great grandsons, were the ring bearers. The "Wedding" was conducted by Karl Apple, the author of the very humorous ceremony. Cliff and Kate were persuded to serve a sentence of another 50 years of hard labor after Brad Clark joined the "wedding party" with his 12 guage shot gun, much to the delight of the "congregation". Out of state guests included Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Scribner and Paralee, Sand Point, Idaho; Mr. and Mrs Joe Scribner, Joyce and JoAnn, Mrs. Gladys Scribner and Sherry, Mr. and Mrs. Denny Scribner, Mr. and Mrs. Graham Fitch, all of Spokane; Royce Scribner, Jason and Alan, Renton, Washingtn; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Keltner, Denver, Colorado. In state family attending wre Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Rand and a Brazilian exchange student, Tony Maria, Dillon; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cartwright and Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Winston Rollins and John, all of Great Falls; LeRoy Nulf, Fort Benton; Mrs. Marian Scribner and family; Mrs Ethel Scribner and family. Friends and family from Black Eagle, Bozeman, Butte Denton, Harlowton, Fort Benton, Great Falls, Helena, Lewistown, Manchester, Stanford and Wilsall attended the reception. Cliff and Kate have lived in Geraldine all their marred life. Cliff came to Montana from Roy, Missouri; he worked for the Big Sag Ranch for a number of years. Kate's parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Nulf, homesteaded east of Geraldine, coming to the area from Indiana in 1910. Cliff and Kate owned and operated Cliff's Bar in Geraldine for 32 years, retiring from that business in 1975. In their retirement, Cliff spends hours on his large garden and thoroughly enjoys getting in a day of fishing; Kate works on ceramics and enjoys her grand- children and great grandchildren. Clifford & Katherine have 5 children: Mrs. Ralph(Maxine) Peterson, Ulm Mrs. Matt (Cubby) Buck, Geraldine, MT Clifford (Bud) Scribner, Jr., Great Falls, MT. Mrs. Shirley E. Smith, Great Falls, MT.
