Scribner Tuesday George W. "Dad" Scribner, 71 died Tuesday night from injuries received in a rock slide at the old Ben Mandeville ranch above Big Sag ranch Monday. He was brought to the local hospital Monday evening. Details as to the cause of the accident were lacking, but Mr. Scribner was buried from two o'clock to eight p.m. Monday afternoon under tons of rock, according to Sheriff Jack Bradley. Some of the rocks were of boulder size. Carl Johnson, Geraldine, an expert stone mason, was credited with getting Mr. Scribner out of the rock slide, cutting the larger boulders despite the danger of a further slide. His work in the emergency was remarkable,said others there. A power wagon and tractor were necessary to get rescue workers to the scene of the accident from the Big Sag ranch, and Dr. J.S. McDede was flown to the spot by Ralph Petersen, Great Falls pilot spraying in the Geraldine section. Petersen was the pilot painfully injured in a plane crash near Geraldine last week. George Washington Scribner was born in October, 1881, and was 71 years old at the time of his passing. He came to Chouteau county in 1910, and except for five years at Dupuyer before 1920, had lived in this county and the Geraldine section much of the time since. He married Elizabeth Hale, who died in 1915, and to this union were born four sons, Cecil, Great Falls, and Homer, Clifford and Jack of Geraldine. In 1916 he married Paralee Elleson, who passed away in 1937. Children of this marriage are Kirby, Thornton and Joe, all of Spokane, Bonnie of Springfield, Missouri, Barbara of Seattle, and Nadine of Martindale. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 20, in Geraldine at 2 p.m., with Rev. Karl Graf, of Geraldine, officiating.
