Description	:	ERICSON — Clifford Eugene Johnson, 85, of Ericson passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at his home at Lake Ericson. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bartlett. Pastor John Ryding will officiate. Burial will be in the Greeley Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Charles E. Martin American Legion Post 186 of Greeley. Visitation will be Wednesday prior to the funeral at the church. Clifford Eugene was born July 24, 1932, in Greeley County, near Scotia, to Guy and Dollie (Byerly) Johnson. He was raised in Greeley County and graduated from Greeley High School. Clifford served in the United States Army from February 1953 until February 1955. On June 18, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rose Christiansen at Greeley. The couple first lived in eastern Nebraska where Clifford worked for the postal department in Lincoln sorting mail on the railroad cars. In 1958, they moved to Fremont. Clifford was a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years and then served as the postmaster at Ashland for three years. Following his retirement in 1986, Clifford and Rose built a house at Lake Ericson. Rose passed away May 16, 2012. Clifford continued to make his home at the lake until his passing. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He served on the board and was a past president of Ericson Lake Corp. Clifford enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He collected and restored John Deere tractors and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Cheryl Johnson of Omaha; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rick Rumpel of Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Jeremy Frink, Trey Abel, Kiley Engdahl and Dillon Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Zander and Gage Frink; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Lee Johnson of Grand Island; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose; a son, Doug Johnson; a granddaughter, Kelsey Abel; and a brother, Walter Johnson. The Grand Island Independent, August 8, 2017
