Description	:	Before participating in the WWI endeavor he became engaged to his sweetheart Helen Jane Jackson. In patriotic enthusiasm he joined the U.S. cavalry at age 17, falsifying his age just to join, serving in the Rainbow Division under Eisenhower, whom he idolized.While watering the troops' animals, he was blown off while astride a mule, landed headfirst on the rocky riverbed. In patriotic enthusiasm he joined the U.S. cavalry at age 17, falsifying his age just to join, serving in the Rainbow Division under Eisenhower, whom he idolized.While watering the troops' animals, he was blown off while astride a mule, landed headfirst on the rocky riverbed. His buddies suffered massive slaughter by the German invaders. He was left for dead and found by a French farmer who took him back to his home where his family nursed him back to health over several months. During that time he suffered from amnesia not knowing even his own name. He'd been presumed dead by his government and folks back home. At some point he was taken to the U.S. hospital in France where he finally regained his memory, healed and was returned home much to the surprise and rejoicing of family and friends in his hometown of Hicksville, Ohio. He soon after married Helen. They had 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters. He suffered from stiffness of the neck and headaches the rest of his life due to those injuries sustained in that war. That old injury was the location of several strokes, eventually killing him. But no job ever seemed too great a task for him. After retiring from driving truck, he maintained local parks, then retired from that and enjoyed keeping yards trimmed close to home with his riding lawnmower, always smiling and waving at friends. He was a member of the local VFW and an active elder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hicksville. He died in the Veterans Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana knowing he was loved and adored by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who had come to visit. We live in hopes of seeing him again around the Throne of Grace. He was the rock of the family - always steadfast, the calm in the eye of the storm. Married Helen J.
