Mr. Miller was born August 13, 1925, in Plymouth County, to parents Eilert and Pearl (Jeffers) Miller. He graduated from Akron High School in 1943. He married Shirley Stinehart Nov. 16, 1946 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, SD. She preceded him in death Feb. 21, 1991. On April 12, 1997 he married Clarice Fodness at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He was employed as a gas truck driver with Liquid Carriers and Ray Jespersen. After retiring he drove school bus for the Akron-Westfield School District, where he touched many children's lives. Mr. Miller was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Akron Lions Club and ran the football chain gang for 43 years for the Akron football games. During his younger days, he played semi pro baseball with the Yankton Terrys, Sioux Falls Canaries and the local Akron team. He had a chance to play pro ball with the Boston Braves. In his free time he enjoyed watching sports, was an avid golfer, and loved working in his yard, playing cards and spending time with his friends. Survivors include his wife Clarice of Akron; two daughters Nancy Ruhland and special friend David Sheveland of Akron; Lori Heeren and her husband Greg of Akron; one son-in-law Mick Ruhland; one brother Lloyd Miller of Akron; one step-daughter Joni Fodness of Le Mars; one stepson-in-law Troy Fodness and his wife Diane of Fort, Leavenworth, KS; three grandsons, Chad Ericson and his wife Angela of Phoenix, AZ, Gene Ericson and his fiancée Kristina Hembd of Akron and Trent Ruhland of Akron; two grand-daughters, Tricia and Angela Heeren, both of Akron; two step-grandsons, Nicholas and Andrew Fodness; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Shirley, infant daughter Rachel and one son-in-law David Ericson.
