Description	:	Clyde DeCow INDEPENDENCE – Clyde DeCow, 88, of Independence, died at 2:35 p.m. Friday, shortly after being admitted to Mercy Hospital in Independence. He suffered an apparent heart attack following an automobile accident in Independence a short time earlier. He was born Nov. 4, 1895, near Bartlett, to Frank and Josie (Pickering) DeCow. Read More	Clyde DeCow INDEPENDENCE – Clyde DeCow, 88, of Independence, died at 2:35 p.m. Friday, shortly after being admitted to Mercy Hospital in Independence. He suffered an apparent heart attack following an automobile accident in Independence a short time earlier. He was born Nov. 4, 1895, near Bartlett, to Frank and Josie (Pickering) DeCow. The family moved to Oklahoma when he was 5, returning to the Bartlett area when he was 12. He farmed in the Bartlett area until he retired in 1965, when he moved to Independence. On Dec. 31, 1916, he married Edna Hurd. They had five children. She died March 24, 1924. On June 20, 1925, at Columbus, he married Maggie Mozingo. They had three children. She survives of the home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence, where he had served on the board of elders. For many years he served on the Board of Education at Bartlett. He was president of the telephone company in Bartlett and was a member of the Farm Bureau. Other survivors include: three sons, Ralph of Altamont, Maurice of Cassville, Mo., and Virgil of Wichita; two daughters, Dorothy Stephens of Bailey, Colo., and Florence Francisco of Grandview, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald of Manhattan and Harold of Coffeyville; and one sister, Lillian Stroup of Oswego. Services were at 2 p.m. today at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Donald Burt officiating. Burial was at the Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family suggest memorials to the Book of Remembrance at the First United Presbyterian Church in Independence.
