Description	:	ALTAMONT - Ralph C. DeCow, 85, of Alamont, Kan., died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at the Labette County Medical Center Emergency Room in Parsons. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, at rural Bartlett to Clyde and Edna Pearl (Hurd) DeCow. His mother passed away when he was four years old. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Maggie May (Mozingo) DeCow. Ralph was a lifelong resident of Labette County and attended various schools. DeCow, 85, of Alamont, Kan., died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at the Labette County Medical Center Emergency Room in Parsons. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, at rural Bartlett to Clyde and Edna Pearl (Hurd) DeCow. His mother passed away when he was four years old. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Maggie May (Mozingo) DeCow. Ralph was a lifelong resident of Labette County and attended various schools. He graduated from Labette County Community High School and also received a Trade School Diploma in Agriculture. Until January of 1947, he farmed near Bartlett. He then moved to Altamont and operated a shoe and harness repair shop. He had various occupations during his lifetime which included working at the Farmers Coop and DHIA in Altamont. He retired from the maintenance department of Labette County High School in 1980. He was an organizer and charter member of the Altamont Saddle Club and was its first president. He was also a member of the Square Dance on Horses team. His hobby was his team and wagon that he drove in parades and for enjoyment. Following his retirement, he spent many hours at the Senior Citizens Center playing pool. On June 1, 1941, he married Berva M. Hagan at Labette City, Kan. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons, Marvin Dale DeCow, Wichita, Kan.; Ronald DeCow, Edna; and Terry DeCow, Cherryvale; one daughter, Darlene Trollope, Parsons; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Maurice DeCow, Ogden, Utah; and Virgil DeCow, Wichita. Preceding in death were one brother, Connel DeCow; four sisters, Dorothy Stephens, Mildred Gilbert, Doris DeCow and Florance Francisco; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, April 11, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont with Rev. Fred Gates officiating. Burial was in Lake Creek Cemetery at Bartlett. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Altamont was in charge of arrangements.
