Conrad Mummert was born in York Co. Pennsylvania, on Mar 16, 1949, and on Friday evening, July 23, 1926, at his home in Aurelia, his soul left his weary body. He died at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 7 days. It might be added that in his dying hour, when the soul is seemly seeking to be released from the body and the body is holding on to the soul, that our community was being visited with the worst electrical storm of the season. In the year 1864, he together with his parents, left Pennsylvania and came to illinois. Here in the year 1868 he was married to Miss Sarah Krout. Then they felt the call of the West and in the year 1875, this worthy young couple, together with his brother Moses, left Illinois and came to Aurelia. They settled on the farm north of town. By hard labor and honest dealings with men he became a very sucessful farmer and accumulated something of property. After 36 yearsd of labor on the farm and feeling they had earned the rest that comes to tired workin people, they retired from the farm in the year 1911 and settled in the present location in Aurelia. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; three sons, Frank of Aurelia, William of Cherokee, and Coonie of Adrian Minnesota; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Sanborn of Cherokee, Mrs. Ella Jones of Sibley, and Mrs. Carrie Lewis of Cherokee. One son Charles, died at the age of fourteen. He leaves also twenty-five grandchildren, nine great-grand children, four sisters and five brothers. The brother and sisters live in Illinois and Missouri, with the exception of Moses and Jonas, who are residents of Aurelia. Mr. Mummert was a good citizen. He was a kind father to his children, tender and sympathic with his life long companion, liberal to the needy and poor, he was naturally of an optomistic disposition, he was honest and upright in all business deals, no one could say that he took a cent from them dishonestly. The world would be a better place if every man had his moral standards of life. For months past he has been in poor health. And with hearing almost gone, and with the sight of his eyes dimmed, he was constantly confined to his bed, yet without a murmer of complaint. But his passing out must have been something of a sweet releif to this tired traveler of the road. The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist church on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. G.R. Gilbert , gave the sermon. The body was laid to rest in the Afton township cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Connie Mummert and two daughters of Adrian Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johns and children of Sibley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Krout of Rembrandt, Iowa; Mrs. Dell Wright, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Dave Robach, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robach, and Estry Robach of peterson Iowa; Minnie Mahn and daughter, John Mahn, and Mr. and Mrs. G.
