Stevenson, well known and highly respected Richardson Avenue matron, died in the Cambridge hospital, where she had been a patient for some months, on Monday, at the age of 79 years. She was born in Crisfield and had resided here all her life. She was the daughter of the late Diggs and Rachel Ward Evans, and the wife of William R. Stevenson. Stevenson, well known and highly respected Richardson Avenue matron, died in the Cambridge hospital, where she had been a patient for some months, on Monday, at the age of 79 years. She was born in Crisfield and had resided here all her life. She was the daughter of the late Diggs and Rachel Ward Evans, and the wife of William R. Stevenson. Mrs. Stevenson was a highly intelligent and talented woman. She had been a school teacher in her younger days and had played an important part in county school affairs then. She was a motherly type of woman, sympathetic and understanding, devoted to her family, with a keen interest in community affairs, and a neighborliness and helpfulness which endeared her to everyone who knew her. For years she had been a member of Immanuel Methodist Church, attending and enjoying its services. In her long life she had made many friends who held her in high regard and affection. Funeral services were held in the Bradshaw -Covington Funeral Home here Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. J. Howard Link, pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery. Surviving her are her husband, William R. Stevenson, a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Tyson of Crisfield, a sister, Mrs. Dora Tawes, and a brother, Mr. Harry Evans, both of this city. The Crisfield Times, December 21, 1956 pg, 8
