Her health had apparently been as good as usual and her sudden death came as a tremendous shock to the members of her family and to her many friends. Mrs. Selley was well known in Benkelman at the one time, having living here with her husband and children from 1900 to 1921, when hey moved to a farm near Monument, Kansas, where they continued to reside until in April of last year when they retired and moved to Sedgwick and had since made their home with their daughter, Mrs. John P. (Marjorie Selley) Mitchem, and her husband. The selley family was very popular during the years that they lived in Dundy County and at one time, Mr. Selley was identified with the cattle business in quite an extensive way here. They still have many friends living here who will learn of Mrs. Selley's passing with sorrow. Here is an account of her death along with the obituary as it appeared in the Sedgwick Paragraph in its issue of December 27, 1951: Mrs. Cora Emma Baker Selley was the daughter of Archibald and Lovina Bolt Baker. She was born February 14, 1877 in Villisca, Iowa, on a farm which was called the Tennville Vicinity. She lived in this community until her marriage to Samuel Wells Selley on March 22, 1893. Living on a farm nearby for 7 more years and where six of their children were born, they moved to Benkelman, Nebraska i 1900. In 1921, they moved to Monument, Kansas, where they engaged in wheat farming until their retirement, coming to Sedgwick in April of this year. Mrs. Selley was a deeply religious woman and was a member of the Christian Church of Sedgwick at the time of her death. She was a woman of fine talents and had a great understanding of human nature. She was loved by her many friends and she lived a life of high ideals and Christian service. In addition to her husband, Samuel Selley of Sedgwick, she is also survived by her four daughters, Mrs. John P. Mitchem, of Sedgwick; Mrs. June Everly of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Frank Markham of Denver, and Mrs. Thurman Kivette of Los Angels; and one son, Martin Selley of Oakley. Also 24 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also mourn her death. Mrs. Selley passed away in her sleep on the morning of December 21. She had reached the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 7 days. Funeral services for Mrs. Selley were held in the First Christian Church at Sedgwick on Sunday, December 23 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Gerald R. Black officiated. For the services, Chester Francis of Norman, Oklahoma, sang "Going Home," and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. Ruth Stutzman accompanied and was also the organist. For her selections, she included "End of a Perfect Day," "I Need Thee Every Hour," "One Fleeting Hour," and other favorite church hymns. Casket bearers were selected from her grandsons and included LeRoy Everly, James Everly, Martin W. Selley, Archie Selley, Robert Selley, and Adolph Dene. Interment was in the family lot in the Hillside Cemetery. The Kaufman Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
