EDWARD JOHANNSEN CLAIMED BY DEATH TUESDAY Mrs. Edward Johannsen was called to the Great Beyond at 1:30 o'clock a.m. Tuesday morning after a lingering illness. Although her passing was not unexpected, the news of her death came with a sense of shock and sorrow to a large circle of friends whose kindly hopes and wishes had been constantly with her during her unequal battle with the Grim Reaper. Her illness began in November of last year, and uncomplainingly, patiently borne. When death came to release her, it came as a sleep, into which she sank to awake in a brighter land. Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2 o'clock p.m. from the Congregational church, with the pastor, Rev. H.A. Dettmers, officiating. Burial will be made in the Wall Lake Cemetery. Cora N. Barkley was born July 12, 1884, in Viola Township, Sac County, Iowa, and passed away on Tuesday, March 6th, 1928, at the age of 43 years, 7 months and 24 days. With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Barkley, she moved to a farm southeast of Odebolt, which was her home until May 1, 1907, at which time she was married to Edward Johannsen and came to Lake View to make her home. She is survived by her husband, and by one son, Luvern, by two brothers, Edward Barkley of Sac City, and Wm. Barkley of Denver, Colo.; also by four sisters, Mrs. A.C. Hansen, of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. G.O. Whetstone, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. J.A. Gilmer, of LeMars, Iowa, and Mrs. Robert Meyers, of Storm Lake, Iowa. Her mother preceded her in death in 1915, passing away on the home farm near Odebolt and her father died in MeMars, Iowa, on Feb.22. 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Johannsen were the parents of a baby daughter, their first child, who died in infancy. She was one of 12 children in the Barkely family, only six of whom now survive. Mrs. Johannsen was a member of the Congregational church and of the Aid Society, and belonged to the Rebekah and Yeoman lodges. She was a most loving and dutiful wife and mother, and beloved as a friend and neighbor. Her presence will be sadly missed in the home of which she has been the center, and the sorrow caused by her death is one which only the kindly hand of time can change. The music will be in charge of W.F. Brower. A quartette, comprising of Mrs. W.F. Deur, Mrs. Elmer Nelson, Mr. Brower and Mr. Canady will sing "It Is Well With My Soul", "My Father Knows" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul". Miss Blanche Purchase will be the pianist. Those chosen to serve as pallbearers are Lester Hamm, A.B. Cansdy, Oscar Westrom, George Jansen, Tjark Jansen and C.P. Therkelsen. --
