THE ODEBOLT CHRONICLE - Thursday, December 17th, 1931 - Edward Barkley, a former well known resident of Clinton township, passed from this life at his home near Sac City, early Wednesday morning, Dec 9. Mr Barkley had recently undergone an operation for a goiter according to the Sac Sun and had apparently recovered. He had been downtown the week prior to his death. He was stricken with double pneumonia later in the week and died at the stated time. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church in Sac City Saturday afternoon and burial in the family lot in the Odebolt cemetery. Mr. Barkley was about forty-two years of age, and leaves his wife, and a small adopted child, besides several sisters and a brother. The family resided on a farm in Clinton township, southeast of Odebolt, for many years, the children all being reared there. After the mother died, and the daughters all married, the father and Ed, the son, still lived there. They later sold the farm and bought a smaller place close to town at Sac. The father died not long after this and the son remained there.
