Description	:	Cornelius Wayne King was born December 12, 1866 in Tamaroa, Perry County, Illinois, 3rd child of 5, to Phoebe Parlier King and Solomon Maxwell King. His family were farmers. They moved west to California in the 1870's and settled in Sanger, California. That part of Fresno county was rich in good soil and moderate climate and his family farmed there for many years. Read More	Cornelius Wayne King was born December 12, 1866 in Tamaroa, Perry County, Illinois, 3rd child of 5, to Phoebe Parlier King and Solomon Maxwell King. His family were farmers. They moved west to California in the 1870's and settled in Sanger, California. That part of Fresno county was rich in good soil and moderate climate and his family farmed there for many years. In the 1880 census, he is 13 years old and lives with his parents and his 4 siblings. He registered to vote at the Mendocino Precinct in Fresno County on July 26, 1888. His brother Jonathan A. and father Solomon are on the same page in that registry book, about a month apart. In 1889, he married Alice M. Hudspeth who was born in Missouri in 1877. Her records show her mother was born at Virginia and her father was born at Missouri. The 1890 census burned of course so that isn't available for anyone, but voter records have him; on June 8, 1896, Cornelius registered to vote at Squaw Valley, at that time, an area of dry rolling hills more suited to horses and livestock than farming, which is right up the hill from Sanger. The registration gives his physical description. It states he was 5'9", Blue eyes, Light hair, and Light Complexion. His tax records at that time show he was taxed for 8 horses there. In 1900 he is in the census at age 33, married to Alice M, with 2 children; May Abigail age 8, and Everett Solomon age 6. He is a farmer. In the 1910 census they have moved out to Coalinga where Cornelius is working at the 4TH Avenue Livery Stables. It is possible that he owned this business. This census gives his age as 43. Wife Alice is also listed there. The first two children's names are reversed, and there are also two more smaller children. Abigail May "Abbie" is listed as now age 18, working as a "clerk in a store." Solomon Everett is shown as 15. Walter C. at 4, and Clarence R. at 1 year old. In 1939 the Fresno Registry has him living at 339 Diana Street, retired. Cornelius died on 4-16-1941 and was buried with his parents and siblings at Mendocino Cemetery in Parlier, California. Mendocino Cemetery confirms he is buried in Plot # 2-8-2-6. Note* The photograph is not of his grave; it was posted by another member & is his family members in Lot 3. Cornelius is buried in LOT 2, but its close by. These are his parents. California Death Index has his birthdate as 1867 and place of birth as Ohio which was the information guessed and given by an informant at the time of death for the records, but is slightly off; he was born in Illinois in December 1866 but entered into birth records a few weeks later as winter in Illinois and Tamaroa didn't have any place to report vital statistics. *Note: This Cornelius should not be confused with the Cornelius King who died 12-27-1934: That gentleman died in Los Angeles and has a grave site in Los Angeles.
