Tennessee Counties Register reads that Jonathan King born 1790 married Jemima Maxwell, daughter of Thomas Maxwell, Sr., of Bedford County, Tennessee in 1824, and that Jonathan King was out of Perry County, Illinois. Gibson County Register states Solomon Maxwell King was born in 1831, not 1830, but everything else matches. Solomon Maxwell King married Phebe Rebecca Parlier, b. Jan 1835 @ Illinois. In the 1850 census, Jonathan (61), Jemima (50), and their children Solomon (20), William J. (16) and Mary A. King (13)are found at Perry County, Illinois. Solomon hadn't married yet and was living at home with his parents, brother, and sister. In 1855, Tamaroa got its own Post Office, making the trip to other larger communities for post unnecessary. The 1860 Census shows Solomon age 28, married to Phebe (spelled "Pheba" ) age 24, were living with Anna Amy age 3, and John A. age 2, plus a servant named Mary Dodge or Mary Badge, age 15, born at Illinois. They were all living in Tamaroa, Perry County, Illinois. In that same census of 1860, Solomon's parents, Jonathan King age 70 (spelled "Jonathin" by the recorder) and Jemima Maxwell King age 55 were living in the same house with their son Solomon and his family. Phebe's census entry states she has "2 small children" at that time. Solomon enlisted in the Civil War on May 25, 1861 and records show he went in as a Private, Company A, Illinois 14TH Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on June 24, 1864. In the 1870 census Solomon is still living in Tamaroa, Illinois, age 39, with Phebe age 35. In this census, Anna Amy is listed as "Amy" age 15, Jonathan A. is now 12, and baby Cornelius is 3. Solomon's Real Estate value is listed as $2000, and Personal Property at $1000. Mary the servant doesn't show up in their household this time, and neither does Solomon's dad Jonathan, who would have been 80, or mom Jemima, who would have been 65. Jonathan and Jemima are not found in Illinois in that 1870 census at all, making the 1860 census the last census they appear in. It isn't in the 1870 census but Phebe is pregnant. The completion of the trains to the west coast enabled many families to migrate west, and by the 1880 census, Solomon had done just that. Solomon (50), Phoebe(45), and their children have settled in Sanger, Fresno County, California, and are farming. Jonathan is now 22, Cornelius W. is 13, Abigail is 9, and William Riley is 5. Amy A has married and is found living in Sanger, California also, in her own home with her husband James McConnel Marshall, born 1849. This census shows she is 25, James is 30, and they have 3 children. She now goes by "Amay." In the 1900 Census, Solomon and Phoebe are living alone in Kingsburg, California, about 11 miles away from Sanger, still in Fresno County. Cornelius has married and he also lives in California, married to Alice, with 2 children. In the 1910 census, Solomon & Phebe are joined by William Riley King, age 37, farmer. There is no wife or children listed with William in that census. Solomon must have been either a very compelling family authority, or a very loving one, because all his children, with spouses and their own children in tow, and multiple lines of the family, followed him west to California, even traveling while pregnant. Solomon died in 1915 after a long and fruitful life. Phebe passed 4 years later. Almost everyone in this family line is buried at Mendocino Cemetery in Parlier, CA. Note for Researchers: Although members of Phebe's line of Parliers did migrate to California and even founded a small town there, most of the Parliers continued on in Illinois, and there are over 40 Parliers in Macon County cemeteries alone, and 178 Parlier relatives buried in Illinois.
