Read More	Jonathan Alvin King was born in Perry County, Illinois in 1858. His father was Solomon Maxwell King (b. [email protected] Gibson County, Tennesee. His mother was Phebe Rebecca Parlier from Illinois, (b. 1-6-1835). The U.S. Census 1860 shows him living at Perry County, Illinois with parents Solomon & Phebe King and grandparents Jonathan & Jeminia King. In this Census, Jonathan A. was 2 years old. Note:The 1860 census shows him born 1856 yet says he is only 2 years old; it should say 4 years, so the 1856 birth date is the census taker's error. All the other census entries for him are correct at 1858. At 22 years old, he is listed on the 1880 Census living in Fresno County, California with his parents Solomon and Phebe and the other children in his family. His Sister Abigail King (b. 1870 @ Illinois)is also listed in this household. A year later, on 9 December 1880, he marries 17 year old Florence "Fanny" Levis of Fresno County, California. They made their home at Selma, California. Note: Be aware in your searches that in the "Great Record" Florence is listed at Lewis instead of Levis, this is a typographical error from transcription later on. Jonathan had involved himself in local politics. Fanny (pronounce by some in the family as "Fawny" ) and Jonathan have their only child, a boy, Alvin Solomon, born 12-7-1883 at Selma, California, Fresno County. Fanny divorces Jonathan King in a long drawn out and bitter divorce, complete with newspaper reports of the divorce trial at Selma. Even though they hadn't lived together for many years, Judge Reynolds and the Court Commissioner don't grant the divorce until 1893. Jonathan is 35 at this time. During the divorce, Jonathan had gone to live with his sister Abigail "Abbie" King Sanderson, and her husband William Sanderson at Sanger, California. Jonathan shows up on the 1990 Census living there with Abbie, Will, and their 5 children. His parents, Solomon and Phebe are living in Fresno, California, alone on that same census. Fanny doesn't allow anyone, family or other wise, to ever utter the man's name again in her presence. She later marries Nicholas Carrington and they raise Jonathan's son Alvin, together with Nicholas' daughter Nadine, from his deceased wife. In 1902 Jonathan's voter registration is out of Reedley, California. In 1904 his voter registration is found at Mendocino Precinct, Kingsburg, Fresno County, California. On September 9, 1918 he is drafted into WWI and the historical record of his documents show his nearest relative was listed as living at 2103 High Street in Selma, California. On 11-11-1919 the war ends. In 1925 there is a Military Pension registered in his name showing him at age 67 and an "Invalid" and gives the following information regarding his service: 25th Company, US Artillery Core. In the 1930 Census, he is listed residing in Township 03, Fresno, California, at the address listed under the name of Fresno County Hospital. This 1930 Census record lists Occupation: Porter / Industry: Hospital, It lists his age as 72. There is no information that Jonathan ever married again, after Fanny. Fanny Levis King Carrington is the mother of Alvin S. King. **No Jonathan A. King is found in the legal record California Death Index. Notes for Genealogists: Sometime after the divorce, Jonathan's records show he started using "John" instead of Jonathan on legal documents. Also, there are 5 different times on his records after divorcing Fanny where his location, relatives, and birth date match but the middle name on records is changed to "Allen" instead of Alvin. (Allen was the name of Jonathan King's Grandpa, Allen Parlier.) Maybe there was another man in his county with the same name so he changed it to avoid confusion; It is unknown why after the divorce, all other entries in his documents match except for the middle name. I hope this helps for those doing research. The cemetery says they DO have the name Jonathan King in their records but they have no death date or any interment DATE on their records. On 10-14-20 Mendocino Cemetery Administration provided the location of Jonathan's ashes: Div 2, Block 8, Lot 3, Grave 5. A simple marker in the next row next to Solomon and Phebe has J. King with year of death as 1932, (marker photo included here). The wider photograph posted shows the general burial section of the Parliers, Kings, and Sandersons, so that's helpful for those who may seek more info. There is a more recent FamilySearch MEMBER-SUBMITTED Death INFO which has NO ATTACHED CITATIONS, no legal reference, no historical documents, at FamilySearch, under John King, not Jonathan King. This info was submitted a couple of years after this memorial was created. Any paying "member" can submit anything to Family Search.com without any legal or historical record. ***
