Ernest Olen Farson, the third son of Myrtle and John Farson, was born September 24, 1928 on a farm near Brownville, and passed away Wednesday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m. at the Marine Air Corps station, El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif., at the age of 19 years, 7 months and 11 days. During his early childhood, his parents resided in Taft, Calif., and Nemaha. In 1933 the family moved to Brownville where he received his education, graduating from the Brownville high school with the class of 1946. He was liked by classmates and those who knew him. He was a member of the school's basketball team and enjoyed participating in all school activities. He was an industrious boy, and always was working in the fruit season at Brownville, and was employed in Auburn by the W. A. McKee & Son garage for a time. A communication from Major General Wood of the Marine corps received by the deceased lad's parents stated: "During his short career in the marine corps he proved himself to be a type of young man which was built the proud reputation of the Marine Corps. He was second to none in the qualities that go to make a man." Ernest became a member of the Brownville Methodist church June 25, 1938, where he was a faithful member and regular in his attendance. He enlisted in the Marine Air Corps for three years at an Omaha recruiting office on his 18th birth anniversary, Sept. 24, 1946. He was immediately sent to camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif., where he received his "boot" training and graduated in the radio school May 9, 1947, as radio operator and message center man. He was later sent to the Marine Corps Air station at El Toro, Santa Ana, where he passed away after serving one year, 7 months and 11 days. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde. Those remaining to mourn his passing are his mother and father; three brothers, Melvin, Darrel and Maynard, all at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Martin of Nebraska City and Nehawka, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Brownville, Tuesday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Ward Merritt of Humboldt. Flower girls were: Frankie Wright, Imogene Helms, Mildred Brown and Joyce Kermoade. Honorary pallbearers were: John Ballue, John Sierks, Richard Clifton, James Wensien, Marvin Stephens and Delyn Den. A military service was held at the grave, with interment in the Nemaha cemetery, with Casey and Timm funeral home in charge of arrangements.
