Description	:	Vincon Rex Coates was born to John and Cora Coates October 5, 1919, in Quinby, Iowa, and died March 6, 2004, at his home in Rapid City. Vince grew up and attended school on the Star Ranch near Madison, SD. He joined the US Army in 1942 and served in the European Theatre during World War II. He continued his military career in the SD National Guard until his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1976. Read More	Vincon Rex Coates was born to John and Cora Coates October 5, 1919, in Quinby, Iowa, and died March 6, 2004, at his home in Rapid City. Vince grew up and attended school on the Star Ranch near Madison, SD. He joined the US Army in 1942 and served in the European Theatre during World War II. He continued his military career in the SD National Guard until his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1976. He served as commander of the American Legion Post 22 during the first Legion World Series held in Rapid City, and was a member and officer of the VFW in Rapid City. Vince was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Keystone, SD, and Knollwood Methodist Church in Rapid City. Vince married and moved to Rapid City in 1950 where he raised a family and worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years. He is survived by one brother, Dale Coates and wife Nathy of Madison, SD, one sister, Pauline Olson of Sioux Falls, SD, three children, Patty Coates of Anoka, MN, Ron Coates and wife Virginia of Rapid City, John Coates and wife Amy of Chadron, NE, first wife, Maple Trom of Rapid City, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ida, wife Betty, stepson Charles, four brothers and four sisters. Dad, Brother, and Grandfather, you will be dearly missed by all that enjoyed your love, your contagious laugh, wonderful stories and reminiscing. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 12 at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with the South Dakota Army National Guard providing military honors.
