Description	:	Cynthia Cecelia Parrish, daughter of Squire and Sophia Parrish, was born November 13, 1845, at Toulon, Ill., the fourth child in a family of ten. She was united in matrimony January 3, 1864, at Toulon to George Clark Maxfield, who, at that time was serving his country as a member of Company F, One Hundred and Twelfth Illinois volunteers during the Civil War. Read More	Cynthia Cecelia Parrish, daughter of Squire and Sophia Parrish, was born November 13, 1845, at Toulon, Ill., the fourth child in a family of ten. She was united in matrimony January 3, 1864, at Toulon to George Clark Maxfield, who, at that time was serving his country as a member of Company F, One Hundred and Twelfth Illinois volunteers during the Civil War. Two children were born to them, Oren and George Dexter, both of whom are deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Maxfield and one child came to Fairmont, Neb., in February, 1874, and there they built their home. Thus, they were pioneers in Fillmore County, as Mrs Maxfield's parents, before her, had been pioneers in Stark County Illinois. Mr. Maxfield died May 1, 1900. November 21, 1907, Mrs. Maxfield became the wife of Joseph Burns, and in happiness and harmony these two have journeyed along together ever since. After an illness which became acute just recently, she obeyed the final summons at her home in Fairmont, early Saturday morning, March 14, 1931, at the good age of 85 years, 6 months and 1 day. Mrs. Burns is mourned by her devoted husband; by her grandson, Glenn Cecil Maxfield of Kankakell, Ill.; two great-grandsons, Gail Dexter Maxfield and Robert Warren Maxfield, besides many nieces and nephews. For years Mrs. Burns had opened her home to roomers and boarders, and all who were privileged to enjoy that hospitality felt truly at home with"mother", as they affectionately called her. One incident of her earlier life, which always had for her a pleasant recollection was when a group of fifty young ladies, of whom she was one, rode out on horseback to meet and escort Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas met there to engage in one of their famous debates. Some fourteen years ago, Mrs. Burns unfortunately sustained a fracture which compelled the use of a wheel chair until the time of her death. As a child, she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and having transferred her membership to this church when she came to Fairmont she was therefore a resident and church member in this place for the past fifty-seven years. She was also a charter member of Mount Moriah Chapter No. 38, Order of the Eastern Star, having served as worthy matron for one year and treasurer for fifteen years. She was also a member of the Sunset club. Attended by a large number of old friends and neighbors and by a strong guard of honor of O.E.S. and members of A.F.&A.M., the funeral services were held at the home and at the Methodist church, Fairmont, Monday afternoon, March 16. The pastor, Rev. J. Henry Stitt, officiated, and favorite hymns were sung by Madams W.R. Dorrance and George Carney, with piano accompaniment by Mrs. A.A. Ashby. Interment was in Fairmont cemetery. The pallbearers were M.M. Akin, O.E. Miller, George W. White, F. Patterson, M. Jolly and J.A. Rose.
