Description	:	Ensign Gillan was 21 years when deceased, He came to Concordia with Glen Clifford and Irma Griffee Gillan his parents, when he was a small lad. He attend schools and graduated from Concordia High School in the class of 1940. During his years in high school, Dale was prominent in athletics, and was captain of the basketball team his senior year. Read More	Ensign Gillan was 21 years when deceased, He came to Concordia with Glen Clifford and Irma Griffee Gillan his parents, when he was a small lad. He attend schools and graduated from Concordia High School in the class of 1940. During his years in high school, Dale was prominent in athletics, and was captain of the basketball team his senior year. He was a member of the tennis squad and for three years was a member of the “C” Club. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Washburn College in Topeka, for one and half years, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. At that time he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps and on November 10, 1942, went to Lincoln, Nebr., where he attended a Civilian Pilot Training School. He took his pre-flight training in Iowa City and later took special work in Minneapolis, Minn. He received his wings at Pensacola, Fla., where he was commissioned as Ensign early in December, 1943. From Pensacola, he came to Concordia for 15 day leave, and left here for San Diego, Calif., on December 1943. He gave his life for his country on February 11, 1944 in the south pacific. Ensign Gillan is survived by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy, of North Platte, Neb, and Burton Lee of the home and one sister, Betty Jane, of the home. Also surviving are his grandmother, Mrs. Laura Gillan, of Exeter, Nebr, and other relatives. Contributor: Wildcat68 (50119975)
