Description	:	Dallas Jack Rogers, 86, of Bryson Walk, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 in a Swain County hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late French and Hattie DeHart Rogers. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. "455th AAA Combat Actions Report: One gun section, #6 (C6) of ‘C' Battery, under Lt. Read More	Dallas Jack Rogers, 86, of Bryson Walk, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 in a Swain County hospital. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late French and Hattie DeHart Rogers. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. "455th AAA Combat Actions Report: One gun section, #6 (C6) of ‘C' Battery, under Lt. Norman Hearn, enroute in column in the vicinity of Tagnon (about 15 miles northeast of Reims, on the N51-E46 highway) at 0930 hours, fired on and knocked out two enemy vehicles, moving northeast in an enemy column...The machine gunner who knocked out these vehicles on August 30, 1944 would have been Dallas J. Rogers, who was using a quad .50-cal. machine gun trailer (which could fire on the move atop a special trailer in the American column). This incident appeared in newspaper dispatches in the United States. Dallas had enlisted on Sept. 24, 1942 at Camp Croft, SC. He was trained at Camp Stewart and Ft. Benning, Ga. and attached to the 455th AAA Bn., Battery 'C', gun crew #6, for the rest of the War. The 455th AAA served in XX Corps of Gen. Patton's Third US Army..." He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gertrude Howard Rogers, daughter, Barbara Robinson and her husband, Bob, of Bryson City, grandson, Casey Davis, three stepsons, Wendell White of Hickory, Alvin White of Maravian Falls, and Dean White of Conover and one sister, Joyce Ashe of Bryson City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Victory Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Danny Sweet and Tom Harris will officiate, with burial in the DeHart Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas Cloer, Jim Hughes, Larry Winchester, Nick Niquette, Hubert Hicks and Roger Jones.
