Daniel Lanning was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Victor, the son of Daniel P. and Fanny (McBride) Lanning. He graduated from Victor High School in 1933 and attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette, for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He married Mary Mane Kurie July 17, 1949, in Las Vegas, NV. He worked at the Breese Company for 35 years. The couple also worked part time with Jake Valentine at Hoover-Valentine Funeral Home, Marengo. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marengo; the American Legion in Marengo and Ladora and the Ladora Town Council. Lanning is survived by his wife; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Dolores and Lee Schlessman, Denver, CO., Diane and Joseph Beberick, Lakewood, CO., Mary Ellen and Ed Fullmer, Omaha, NE., Marianne Ocheltree, Victor, and Tom and Catherine Shaull, Tipton; several sisters-in-law and good friends Bob and Jackie Wagner, Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Homer Lanning, and three sisters, Ruth Ocheltree, Naomi Mumby and Esther Jann.
