Born April 15, 1925 at Buena, Washington, near Yakima to Daniel E. and Lena (Owen) McEwen, he was th youngest of their 10 children. He attended grade school in the Kelso area, and high school in Ryderwood and Centralia, graduating in 1942. Read More	OBIT: Daniel Lyle McEwen, a resident of Centralia, coming from Ryderwood, died at his home on Wednesday, December 28. He was 69. Born April 15, 1925 at Buena, Washington, near Yakima to Daniel E. and Lena (Owen) McEwen, he was th youngest of their 10 children. He attended grade school in the Kelso area, and high school in Ryderwood and Centralia, graduating in 1942. During World War II, he served in the Pacific with the 101st Construction Battalion Seabees as a machinist mate 2nd class. He built two houses on his property, a small home finished in 1949 and a larger one in 1957. He enjoyed creating things and working on his home. His working career was in the automotive field He started as an apprentice mechanic and later became a service foreman at Severns Chevrolet in Chehalis. He worked as a salesman at Campbell Chevrolet and later returned to Gootee Chevrolet, retiring in 1990. During his career, he had worked in all aspects of the business. He was awarded two trips to Europe through the Chevrolet Motor Division. His memberships included the Centralia First presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed meeting people and working on hamburger and steak dinners for these organizations. On December 15, 1945 he married Naomi Ramsay in Salem, Oregon. She survives him at the family home in Centralia. Also surviving are his son, John, at the family home; a sister, Laura Timberman of Vancouver, Washington; a brother, Elmer of Fremont, California; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be donations to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1124 Columbia, Seattle, Washington 98104; the Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund, 501 W. Pine St., Centralia, Washington 98531; or the Lewis County Animal Shelter, 560 Centralia-Alpha Road, Chehalis, Washington 98532.
