Stouffer & Son, died at 8:30 o'clock last Sunday morning, in the 85th year of his age. He had been ailing from the general debility accompanying old age for some months. At one time last winter his condition was very serious and it was feared that he could not survive the winter, but he rallied and so far recovered as to be able to be about some. Some days ago he was again confined to his room and steadily grew worse until the time of his death. Daniel Stouffer was born in Adams county, Pa., September 10, 1811. He came to Columbiana in 1834, engaged in the shoe business and was united in marriage with Miss Susannah Flickinger the same year. His wife died in a short time, leaving him an infant daughter, who is now Mr. M. Coblentz. In 1837 he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Greenamyer. Two children were the fruit of this union, Mrs. Sarah Tate, who died about eighteen months ago, and his son, Dale, who has been associated with him in the dry goods business for a number of years past. Mrs. Stouffer's death occurred about a year ago. Ever since his arrival in Columbiana sixty-two years ago, Mr. Stouffer has been one of her most prominent and prosperous citizens. At the time of his death, he was probably the oldest and longest-established business man in Columbiana county. Funeral servies were held in the M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon, Revs. Morton and Crouse officiating. Mr. Stouffer has been a member of the M. E. Church for about fifty years and was one of its staunch supporters. He first became a member of the Lutheran Church, but later embraced Methodism, and has been a member of the Methodist Board of Stewards and Board of Trustees for many years. The last time Mr. Stouffer was present at the church services, was the occasion of the old folks' meeting, two weeks before the day of his death. He will be sadly missed from his accustomed place in the church. His funeral was very largely attended. As a mark of respect, our business men closed their respective places of business during the hours of his funeral. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the cemtery.
