Description	:	Daniel Van Brocklin was born in Canada, May 22, 1840 and died at his home in Creighton, Neb., December 8, 1909. When a child his parents moved to Illinois, residing there until he was twenty years old, when they moved to Wisconsin. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in the 27th, Wisconsin and served about three years, receiving an honorable discharge. On Christmas day, 1866 at Manitowac, Wis., he was married to Elizabeth Krause and to this union eleven children were born, nine of whom are living with the wife to mourn his death. Two years after their marriage these young people decided to cast their fortunes in the west and moved to Saunders County, Neb., where they resided for ten years, then came to Knox County, where they took up their residence on a homestead near Verdigre, where they lived until about five years ago, when they moved to town, as he said to take life easy. Mr. Van Brocklin was a man who enjoyed the confidence and good will of all who knew him, his honorable upright way of dealing with his fellow man and his disposition to make the best of life were strong factors in drawing friends to him. He was a good neighbor and splendid man to his family. Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the Catholic church of which he was a member.
