Son of William Shrader and Laura Smalley OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, August 11, 1921 DANIEL WILLIAM SHRADER Relatives and old-time friends in this county were greatly grieved to learn of the sudden death of Daniel William Shrader, formerly of this county, which occurred at Cache, Okla., on July 30, 1921, at the age of 61 years and 27 days. For several years Mr. Shrader had been subject to fainting spells, caused by spinal trouble, but for several months had been unusually well. On the day of his death he rode his horse to the cattle pasture to look after the stock, and when he did not return at the time he was expected his son-in-law went in search of him and found him lying dead and his horse just a short distance away. A few lines were written in his notebook which stated: "Mamma, I have got to die. Do the best you can. Goodbye to all. I had three spells." Funeral services were held at the family home at Cache and the remains were brought to Chariton, arriving here Friday evening. On Saturday, services were held at Zion church, conducted by Rev. E. A. McKim, pastor of the Chariton Christian church, after which interment took place in the Zion cemetery. Daniel William Shrader was born in Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, on July 3, 1860. He grew to manhood in Iowa and united with the Christian church, later transferring his membership to the M. E. church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Alvaretta Jane Shore on January 28, 1889, and to this union nine children were born, five sons and four daughters, one daughter dying in infancy. The children, who with the wife and mother survive are: Joseph Lester Shrader and Mrs. Uretta Snow Moulden, of Lawton, Okla.; Charles Warren of Fayetteville, Ark.; Harold Nelson of Homer, La.; Mrs. Luella Maude Jackson and Mrs. Lucy Frances Miller of Cache, Okla.; and Clyde Henry and Claude Allen, twin brothers, who were at home with their parents. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and by two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Annie Ragan of Melrose; Mrs. Hattie Bell of New Mexico; Ed Shrader of Melrose; Nathan of near Russell; and Frank of Boone. All brothers and sisters were present at the last sad rites except for Mrs. Bell. Throughout his life he was a member of the Christian and Methodist churches and was a willing supporter of all movements for the uplifting of the neighborhood in which he lived. His private charities were many and for the most part known only to those that he helped. He was an active and zealous worker in all his undertakings, whether it be in his own interest or the interest of others. His sudden and unexpected death came as a great shock to his family, friends and neighbors and their grief and sense of loss is deep; but they feel that his life was well spent on earth. While he has passed to his reward his noble deeds will live in our memory as a lasting tribute to his friends and neighbors.
