Description	:	Daniel Zittle, a son of Mary Magdalena (née Hiestand) and Michael Zittle, senior, was born about 1803 in Washington County, Maryland. He was named after his paternal grandfather and uncle. His family established the village of Zittlestown, Washington County, where Daniel Zittle lived for most of his life. Read More	Daniel Zittle, a son of Mary Magdalena (née Hiestand) and Michael Zittle, senior, was born about 1803 in Washington County, Maryland. He was named after his paternal grandfather and uncle. His family established the village of Zittlestown, Washington County, where Daniel Zittle lived for most of his life. Daniel Zittle and Elizabeth Koogle were married on 13 February 1828 in Frederick County, Maryland. Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Adam Koogle, and sister of Catharine Koogle, who was married to Daniel's brother, Michael Zittle, junior. Elizabeth and Daniel Zittle had four children; the first two—Mary Magdeline and Josiah—lived to maturity. The 1850 through 1870 U.S. Censuses record Daniel Zittle working as an ice delivery man, farm laborer, and day laborer. He also farmed on his own account, having acquired small tracts of land, such as the 1834 purchase of 15½ acres. Daniel and Elizabeth Zittle, and their daughter Mary Magdalene, were members of the Salem Evangelical Church in Boonsboro, Washington County. Daniel Zittle died in 1875 in Zittlestown; the exact date is unknown. His last will and testament, dated 8 April 1875, was proved on 23 November 1875. Notes Boonsboro may refer either to the town itself or to Washington County's District 6 (Boonsboro) which includes Zittlestown. "A fight in the mountains.—For the last two or three years there has been a feud existing among several families residing on the pike in the Blue Ridge mountain, three miles from Boonsboro', Md., in reference to a small tract of land. The parties are Daniel Zittle, John Lapole, John Hutzell, Greenberry Young, John Dunean, and their wives. The party met upon the disputed territory on the 18th of June, armed with knives, stones and sticks and fought a regular pitched battle, which resulted in the injury of several of the party.
