Description	:	Jacob Zittle, the second child of Mary Magdalena (née Hiestand) and Michael Zittle, senior, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Zittle family moved to western Maryland between 1796 and 1798, and established Zittlestown in Washington County in the 1810s. Jacob Zittle and Catharina Schildknecht were married on 29 April 1825 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. The couple lived near Middletown, and became the parents of five children. Jacob Zittle worked as a blacksmith, and by 1850 had acquired land worth $6,200. Jacob Zittle and Catharina Schildknecht were married on 29 April 1825 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. The couple lived near Middletown, and became the parents of five children. Jacob Zittle worked as a blacksmith, and by 1850 had acquired land worth $6,200. Prosperous in comparison to his Zittle relations, he left an estate worth more than $18,000 when he died in 1868.
