Darlene was a devoted and loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend. Darlene died on Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was 73. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Earl E. Nelson in 1982; three brothers and a sister. Those left to honor her memory are: her husband, Ron of Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Earl, Jr., "Sonny" and Lisa Nelson of Albany, Georgia; her five daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Romans-Porter and Steve Porter of Knoxville, Iowa; Elizabeth "Liz" and Bob Ticknor of Arlington, Texas; Carmen and Bob Vander Leest of Newton; Dorothy "Dot" Mickle of Monroe, Iowa; Anita "Toots" and Doug Trotter of Newton; 16 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren; three step sons and daughter-in-law, Carl Gobb of Arden Hills, Minnesota; Andy and Terri McKinney of Newton; and Larry D.
