Description	:	Darlene M. Maloney, 87, Watertown, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services will be Thursday in the Holy Name Catholic Church at Watertown with the Rev. John Lantsberger officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Watertown. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Keith Maloney, Joelle Maloney, Lindsay Waldram-Spencer, Sean Maloney, Barbara Maloney, John Waldram, Victoria Maloney, Megan Maloney, Abby Maloney, Sydney Maloney and Timothy Spencer. Darlene Margaret Maloney was born Oct. 14, 1920, to George and Aldea (Benjamin) Donnelly in Elk Point, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1938. She attended one year of college at the University of S.D. in Vermillion. She married John L. Maloney Feb. 11, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point. The couple moved to Watertown in 1949 and established the Dairy Queen at that time. Her husband died Sept. 20, 1988. In 1989, she sold the Dairy Queen to their son and his wife, John and Paula Maloney. She worked at the restaurant until her retirement in 1994. She was active in the Democratic Party for many years. She served as the Codington County chairman from 1963 through 1978. She served on the Watertown Recreation Board for many years. She also served as chair of the Mother's March on Polio. She and her husband were lifetime members of Holy Name Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Drs. Patrick and Michael (Donna), all of Naperville, Ill., and John (Paula) of Watertown; two daughters, Mrs. Walt (Kathleen) Waldram of Vancouver, Wash., and Carol Maloney of Watertown; two brothers, Joe (Carol) Donnelly and George (Diane) Donnelly, all of Elk Point; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Bucholz of Denver, Mrs. John (Dory) Tschantz of Sun City West, Ariz., and Mrs. Richard (Helen) Dirks of Akron, Iowa; six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eileen Donnelly and Mrs. Retha Donnelly, both of Elk Point, Mrs. Monica Kuhl of Pierre, Mrs. Alice Heitz of St. Helena, Calif., Mrs. Gerald (Veronica) Kinnear of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Bernice Maloney of Billings, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
