Joe was born April 22, 1934, in Elk Point, the son of George and Aldea (Benjamin) Donnelly. Read More	Richard Joseph "Joe" Donnelly, 74, of Elk Point, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point. Joe was born April 22, 1934, in Elk Point, the son of George and Aldea (Benjamin) Donnelly. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1953, and then attended South Dakota State University for one year. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 12, 1957, to Dec. 17, 1958. He married Carol Mockler on September 12, 1959, in Vermillion, S.D. He was a lifelong resident of Elk Point, where he farmed. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Bert Smith Post and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Vermillion. The couple spent 30 winters in Yuma, AZ. During his 74th year, he had many health issues, despite these issues, he was able to maintain a wonderful sense of humor, lighting up a room with his smile. He disliked sad times and would find optimism and joy in any given situation. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Elk Point; his two daughters, Joan (Rick) Isaacson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kelly (Harrison) Jones of Phoenix, AZ; his son, Doug (Dena) Donnelly of Elk Point; his seven grandchildren, T.J. Isaacson, Paige Isaacson, Cody Isaacson, Molly Donnelly, Blake Donnelly, Samantha Jones, and Drew Jones; his brother, George (Diane) Donnelly of Elk Point; his three sisters, Ruth Bucholz of Denver, Colo., Dory (John) Tschantz of Phoenix, AZ, and Helen (Richard) Dirks of Akron, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence and Jack Donnelly; and a sister, Darlene Maloney. Visitation: Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elk Point with a rosary at 5:30 p.m., and a wake service at 7 p.m. Service: Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elk Point with Fr. David Roehrich and Fr. John Rasmussen officiating. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elk Point.
