Private Family Graveside Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Lorimor Cemetery in Lorimor. Chaplin Mike Albert will officiate. Visitation, with family receiving friends will be 1-3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Darrel Edwin Long was born February 19, 1941 in Shannon City, Iowa to Sidney Allen Long and Bernice Elizabeth (Bastow). He graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in 1960 and attended one semester at Iowa State University. On August 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Linda K. Petty in Creston. They settled in rural Creston where he worked as a farmhand for Holton McKinney, moving to town in 1965. He also worked for many years shearing sheep in the area. He then began working at Wellmans and served 35 years there in the maintenance department. After his divorce, he settled in Lorimor. On August 8, 1988, he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Tucker in Tingley, Ia. Margaret passed away in 2019. Ed was a former member of the Creston Elks Lodge and Creston Eagles Lodge and the Lorimor Lions Club. Darrel in his spare time loved to golf, bowl, garden, fish, wood working and bee keeping. Survivors include his children, Yolanda (Tom), Merlyn, Brian, Candace (Alex), and Gailla (Jeff); one brother, Charles (Helen); two sisters, Colleen (Wayne) and Rebecca; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret Long, in 2019.
