Mr. WHITAKER was born March 25, 1903, in Jefferson County, the son of Thomas Arthur and Myrtle A. JOHNSON WHITAKER. He married Cecile Thelma GREEN June 26, 1929, at the bride's parents' home. She died Oct. 15, 2000. He worked in Oregon in a sawmill, and later on a dairy farm in Wisconsin before returning to the Beckwith community, east of Fairfield where he farmed until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked at the Western Auto store in Fairfield. He continued to be active in his life, traveling, riding his bike and making dog houses. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Odd Fellows lodge. He belonged to the Grange and the Farm Bureau and served as a trustee for the Bethesda Cemetery until last year. Survivors include eight nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Leland A. WHITAKER and Wayne WHITAKER; one sister, Hazel NELSON; and two nephews.
