He was born on March 29, 1930 in Diller, NE. to Leslie and Bertha (Long) Barber and was a 1947 graduate of Diller High School. Barber, 77 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Homestead House in Beatrice Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2007. He was born on March 29, 1930 in Diller, NE. to Leslie and Bertha (Long) Barber and was a 1947 graduate of Diller High School. He served his country in the United States Navy from February 10, 1949 until August 27, 1973. He served in San Diego, CA., Alemeda, CA, Atlantic City, NJ., Sanford Florida, Patuxent River, MD., Virginia Beach, VA., Key West, Florida, and Lemoore, CA. He was a member of the Bitting-Norman Post #27, American Legion and the Geddes-Thober Post #1077, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Beatrice. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, metal detecting, playing cards, and collecting coins. Survivors include three sons, Pat Barber and special friend Kathy Simon of Beatrice, Steve Barber of Wilber , NE. , and Michael Barber and wife Marina of Novato, CA.; daughter Jane Aden and husband Roger of Beatrice; 22 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters Ruth Detter of Davenport, Iowa,Margaret Jon es and husband Floyd and Eunice Janssen, all of Diller, NE., and Arlene Walters and husband Don of Columbus, NE.; brothers Charles Barber and wife Verneal and Kenneth Barber and wife Loretta, all of Diller; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Bertha (Long) Barber; daughter Theresa Barber; son Jack Barber; sisters Dorothy Corthals and Marilyn Volle; brothers Bernard, Robert and Daniel Barber; and ex-wife Betty Barber. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Christ Community Church with Reverend Jack Magness officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Diller, NE. Military graveside services will provided by the American Legion of Diller, NE. There will be no viewing, but a register book will be available Sunday from 10-5:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. A family prayer services will be held at 10:45 A.M. Monday at the church. A memorial has been established with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice is in charge of the services.
