Description	:	David Isaac Korrey, 89, of Sterling, died on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, in Sterling. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 4, at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Chaney Reager, with Fr. Stephen Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion Post No, 20. He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Iliff, the son of John and Mabel Korrey. Mr. Korrey received his education in Iliff. He worked on the CB&Q Railroad prior to entering the Army on Dec. 15, 1941. Four years later on Oct.15, 1945, he was discharged. His military duty sent him overseas into the European Combat Zone for 2-1/2 years where he participated in the invasions of Salerno, Southern France, saw service in Africa and Italy. When the war ended he was well into Germany. Mr. Korrey served with the 99th Chemical Mortar Battalion and was attached to the 45th and 3rd Divisions. When discharged he held the rank of First Sergeant. Mr. Korrey returned to the CB&Q after the war, later engaged in business and then was employed for about six years by the Cudahy Packing Company when it was located at Third and Hamilton Streets. In 1955 he became owner-manager of the Silver Dollar Restaurant and Bar. After selling the restaurant, Mr. Korrey opened the Liquor Mart. In 1988, he became the accountant and corporate treasurer for the South Platte Sentinel newspaper. Mr. Korrey married Doloris Zima on Nov. 27, 1947 in Sterling. Korrey was a member of the Sterling Elks, American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was involved in the development of the Riverview Golf Course. Mr. Korrey was also instrumental in the design and contruction of the Veterans Memorial in Columbine Park. Mr. Korrey is survived by his wife, Doloris Korrey of Sterling; one sister, Mary May of Sterling; one son, David Korrey and wife Patty of San Diego, Calif; daughters, Debby Korrey of Sterling, Delinda Korrey McDowell and husband Ken of Sterling, and Darla Korrey and hus band JB Severin of Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters, Allison Korrey of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rachel Korrey of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed Korrey, Mike Korrey, George Korrey, Donald Korrey and Ron Korrey; one sister, Maggie Dolan; several broth ers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
