Read More	Obit in The Anthon Herald, 24 February 1943, page 1: Following a long illness, David Bennett, a resident of the Anthon community for over 28 years, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 1943, in a nursing home at Sioux City where he had been receiving treatment since December 1942. He was 76 years, 8 months and 9 days of age. Born at Burbage, England, June 8, 1866, David Bennett was reared in his native land and was married there in 1885 to Mary Timson. They came to the U.S. in May 1914 and immediately took up farming west of Anthon. Becoming afflicted with diabetes, "Dad" Bennett, as he was known to everyone in this community, was compelled to give up farming in 1932, when he moved to Anthon. He and his wife made their home here until last December when they went to a nursing home in Sioux City, where they received the finest care. For several weeks Mr. Bennett's condition had been critical, but he was prepared to go to his master and death came last Wednesday evening to terminate his suffering. The Bennetts had nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving besides the widow of Sioux City are four sons, John and Charles A. of Anthon, William J. of Sioux City, and Lewis L. of Bay Ocean, Oregon; three daughters, Florence M. Tilley of London, England, Rose E. Patterson and Mable E. Curtin of Anthon, twenty-three grandchildren, and one great grandchild. "Dad" Bennett was baptized in the Methodist Church of England when a child and was a good Christian, professing his faith until the end. He was blessed with a kindly disposition that won him a host of friends. A considerate and loving husband and father, he will be missed greatly by those who survive. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 19, in the Anthon Methodist Church by Rev. C.B. Wittstruck, pastor. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Home.
