Children: - Rebecca Snyder (b. 14 Feb. 1831, d. 1917); - Sydney (b. 1873, married James Weidman) The brief information we have about David as reported in the Fayette County history is that he owned his own farm in Tyrone, continued with his father's connection with the German Baptists, and with his first wife Susan he had only one child, Rebecca. In the 1850 census for Tyrone Twp., David "Snider" is listed as a farmer age 43 with property valued at $600.00. Susan is 31 (should be 41) and Rebecca is 17 and still at home. The next entry is the family of Samuel Snyder age 21 who seems to be his nephew, one of the sons of David's two brothers whose households are also named on the page. These are Jacob, 55, and Louis, 46, and his mother Elizabeth, now age 73, is in the home of his nephew L.S. Snider, also near enough to be on the same page, so the families evidently were close, possibly living on property that belonged to their father. As for Susan Hepler, there is little record of her in the county. She is likely related to a Milton Hepler who enlisted 23 Feb. 1864 from Fayette County during the Civil War and served in 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry. In the 1860 Franklin census several families that would become related by marriage are all recorded close to each other. Jacob Strickler is listed as age 32 with a farm valued at $6,400 and personal property worth $1,200. His wife Rebecca (Snyder) Strickler is 27, and the children are David 9, Conrad 7, Susannah 5, John 3, and Elizabeth 2, all born in Pennsylvania. The are in dwelling #295, and the very next home, #296, is that of her father David Snyder, 55, and mother Susannah, 52. He is a laborer with personal property of $100. Further down the page is the home of William Snyder, apparently a cousin or nephew, age 37 in dwelling #298, and at the bottom is the family of Robert Daniel McGinnis, dwelling #301, age 50 with a farm worth $3000. Robert's mother lives there as well, Anna Lynch McGinnis age 88, along with her daughter Mary, age 47. Robert's wife Joannah is 48, but son George Washington McGinnis is not present since he already married Margaret Jane Trimble and moved to Iowa. Her father David Trimble (misspelled as Trimel) is on the next page of the census, dwelling #306 with his 2nd wife Lavina ("Levina" in the census), son John 14 and daughter Sarah A., age 11. He is a laborer with personal property valued at $100. Further down the same page are the homes of Henry Snyder age 48 (cousin of David). Out in Iowa David Snyder's grandson David Strickler would marry Lena McGinnis. The close proximity of all these families suggests how their children met and intermarried. David's wife Susan died by the time she turned 60, about 1868, and he remarried, to Sarah Cumberland with whom he had another child, a daughter named Sydney S. who was born ca. 1873. They lived in Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co. (just west of Fayette). David, Sarah, and Sydney are listed there in the 1880 census where he is a 74 year farmer and Sarah is 55 and also born in Pennsylvania. However, a David Snyder is listed as an elder of the East Liberty Church in Fayette in March 1881, so he might not have cut all his ties with his old community. The history of Fayette County records that David died at Mt. Pleasant "at the foot of the mountains" but he was not forgotten as his daughter Rebecca named her first child David in honor of her father (see below the biography of Rebecca Snyder)
