Description	:	David was born at #15 Eidinghausen, Prussia (now Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) to Ernst Heinrich Kölling and Anne Elizabeth Margarethe Hanna Wallger (in the U.S. he became known as David Collins). He and his parents, along with four other children, came to the United States in 1834, settling first in Ohio. In 1846 they moved to Iowa where his parents bought a farm. In the U.S. the family name was changed from Kölling to Collins. Eventually David migrated west from Iowa to California, where he lived in Siskiyou County. In the U.S. the family name was changed from Kölling to Collins. Eventually David migrated west from Iowa to California, where he lived in Siskiyou County. He married a widow, Martha McMurren Campbell, on 15 Feb 1883 in Yreka, Siskiyou Co, California. The marriage was performed by Elizah Steele, Judge for the Superior Court, Siskiyou County. David and Martha had no children. David died 25 March 1912 from influenza in Oakland, California. His body was transported back to Siskiyou County for burial in Little Shasta Cemetery. Martha died 25 December 1925 and was buried in Little Shasta Cemetery. Note: On many documents David's birthdate and place of birth is inaccurate. He consistently indicated that he was born in Ohio. His younger brother Daniel was born in Ohio and it well may be that David deliberately obfuscated his and his brother's birthdate and place.
