Description	:	David Estill was born on April 26, 1915 in Pioneer, Montana to Edward and Ella (Moore) Estill. He and his older sister, Mary, attended school in Pioneer until David was in 8th grade. During the last year the Estills were in Pioneer, he and Mary contracted polio. Although it was not life threatening, the lasting effects did prevent David from participating in sports during his high school years at Powel l County High School. Read More	David Estill was born on April 26, 1915 in Pioneer, Montana to Edward and Ella (Moore) Estill. He and his older sister, Mary, attended school in Pioneer until David was in 8th grade. During the last year the Estills were in Pioneer, he and Mary contracted polio. Although it was not life threatening, the lasting effects did prevent David from participating in sports during his high school years at Powel l County High School. He was left with a droopy eye and sore feet for the rest of his life. After leaving Pioneer and moving to Deer Lodge, his father owned a barber shop and became a police officer for Deer Lodge. After David’s graduation from Powel l County High School, he moved to Ft. Peck and worked construction on the Ft. Peck Dam. In 1940, he moved back to Anaconda and worked in the zinc leach department with the ACM. During that time he met a wonderful lady, Carrie L Staton and on Sept. 21, 1941 he and Carrie were married in Anaconda. They made their home in Anaconda and were blessed with 6 children. They moved to Galen in 1955 and we blessed with three more children; one who lived for only one day. In 1966, the family moved back to Anaconda. Dave retired from the ACM in 1974. David enjoyed woodworking and cooking but his greatest joy was his family. To this day his family tells stories about trying to sneak a taste of his marvelous spaghetti sauce while it was cooking on the stove. His woodworking projects were always special no matter the size. Whether the project was cribbage boards, napkin holders, cookie racks, a waving Santa (a favorite Christmas treat for the grandkids) or his baby cradles he made for each of the families, they were given with love and pride. The part of his wood working that amazed his kid was how David made the special tools he needed with the tools he had. David died suddenly while shoveling snow at his home in Anaconda on Oct. 28, 1991. The one thing that was always delighted his grandkids was sitting in the recliner with Grampa. He was a gentle giant.
