Description	:	According to her marriage license, Carrie L (Staton) Estill was born at home on Willow Creek ( just east of the ACM settling ponds) to William Staton and Carrie I (Morgan) Staton on Dec. 12, 1921. Carrie’s family owned a farm which had been William’s father’s. For two generations the Staton family income was provided by the sale of stock and produce until the pollutants from the ACM began to affect the ability of the farm to provide a living. Read More	According to her marriage license, Carrie L (Staton) Estill was born at home on Willow Creek ( just east of the ACM settling ponds) to William Staton and Carrie I (Morgan) Staton on Dec. 12, 1921. Carrie’s family owned a farm which had been William’s father’s. For two generations the Staton family income was provided by the sale of stock and produce until the pollutants from the ACM began to affect the ability of the farm to provide a living. She and her family moved to Anaconda and her father worked as a floorman and a motor company and then with the ACM company. Carrie had 5 older brothers and two sisters. Although one brother and one sister passed away after drowning in the Milk River in 1903 many years before Carrie was born. Carrie began her schooling at Beaver Dam schools in Opportunity and she and her brothers walked a mile to meet the bus and ride it to school. After her family moved to Anaconda, she attended the local Anaconda schools and graduated from Anaconda High School in 1939. In 1936, the Statons had an explosion and fire at their home in Anaconda. Carrie had been upstairs when the explosion and fire happened. She burned her feet as she escaped down the stairs and out of the house. In 1937, her father passed away. After she graduated from high school, she went to work for the Standard as a stenographer for the paper. Soon she met a gentleman and her story to the family always was she and Dave met in “Paradise “…the Paradise Bar. They dated for almost a year and were married on September 21, 1941. She and Dave lived in Anaconda and Galen and had nine children. In 1965 they moved back to Anaconda where she lived until she passed away. She had a talent for taking care of people and chose that area for her jobs. She was an LPN and worked at Galen State Hospital in Galen and St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Anaconda until she retired. Carrie had a zest for life. She loved to crochet afghans and made many of them for her family. The delight of her life was her grandkids and especially enjoyed the ones that lived in Anaconda and were close enough to consistently spoil. Her active life was limited by a stroke in 1996. After a year in the Community Nursing Home of Anaconda, she passed away quietly surrounded by her family on April 5, 1997.
