Dave married Esther Besel on Nov. 23, 1941. They were married for 65 years and had two children: a daughter, Janie, and a son, Duane; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dave lived most of his life in Montana. He farmed in the Billings area and then worked at Stroup Hardware and Aldrich Lumber until his retirement. Dave enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and rock-hunting in his younger years. He also enjoyed reading western books and had a unique sense of humor that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Esther; children Janie (Jerry) Story of Colorado and Duane (Susan) Wagner of Laurel; brothers Bill (Marge) Wagner and Ronnie (Jeri) Wagner; sisters Amelia Frank, Ruth Rudio, Esther Johnson and Marion DeRaps; sisters-in-law Jeannine Wagner and Mary Lou Wagner; his grandchildren, Greg (Erica) and Jim Story, and Jason (Tylissa) and Dusty (Kristen) Wagner; and great-grandchildren Emma and Kathryne Story, Tyler and Kaitlyn Wagner, and Ethan Wagner. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Gene Wagner; and his sisters, Helen Besel and Katie Walter. Visitations will begin at the Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th St., on Thursday, Jan. 5. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith Downtown Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
