He was born January 8, 1940, in Niles, to the late Raymond and Rieta (Brewer) Johnson and stepfather, the late Alfred Littrell. A lifelong resident of Buchanan, he graduated from Buchanan High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army. Dave was a member of Buchanan American Legion, former president of Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce, Miss Buchanan and the Michigan Moose Association. He served as secretary of Moose lodge No. 106, Legion Ambassador of State and co-founder of Founder's Day. After joining the Buchanan Moose lodge No. 449 in 1969, he held positions in all offices, including Lodge, District and Legion of the Moose. In 1988, he received a Pilgrim Degree, the highest degree within the Moose Assoc. After serving 26 years as administrator of the Buchanan Moose, he retired and in 2007, Johnson Street was recognized in his honor. He received a certificate from the City of Buchanan for his dedication and commitment to serving numerous boards and councils within the community. He was retired from AutoZone in Niles in September. On January 25, 1969, he married Kaye Roy Johnson who survives. Also surviving are son, James (Wanda) Johnson of Lakeville, Indiana; daughter Leslie Johnson of Niles; sisters, Carol (Ray) Ferrier of Dowagiac and Sharon Jones of Fife lake; five grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim (Marilyn) Roy; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Hoven Funeral Home. Friend may call Thursday, October 21 from 5 - 8. At 7:30 p.m. a Pilgrim Memorial Ceremony will take place during the visitation. Memorials are to Buchanan Moose Lodge No. 449.
